Computer training for CompTIA A+ covers four specialised areas – the requirement is exam passes in just two sectors to reach the level of A+ competent. You’ll find that most colleges restrict their A+ to just two of the training options. Our opinion is this isn’t enough – certainly you’ll have the qualification, but knowing about the others will set you apart in the workplace, where you’ll need a more comprehensive understanding. That’s the reason why you deserve training in the whole course.

Courses in A+ computer training cover fault-finding and diagnostics – both through hands-on and remote access, in addition to building and fixing and understanding antistatic conditions. It could be a good idea to think about supplementing the A+ with Network + as it will give you the knowledge to work with networks, and become a more senior IT professional.

Sometimes, individuals don’t understand what information technology is about. It is stimulating, innovative, and puts you at the fore-front of developments in technology that will impact the whole world for generations to come. We are really only just beginning to get to grips with how all this change will affect us. The way we interact with the world will be profoundly affected by computers and the web.

Should receiving a good salary be around the top on your list of priorities, then you’ll be happy to know that the income on average of the majority of IT staff is a lot higher than with most other jobs or industries. Due to the technological sector growing year on year, it’s likely that the requirement for certified IT specialists will remain buoyant for decades to come.

How are we supposed to go about making the right choice then? With all this potential, we have to know where we should dig – and what it is we should be investigating.

Get rid of a salesperson who just tells you what course you should do without an in-depth conversation so as to understand your abilities as well as experience level. Ensure that they have a expansive choice of training products so they can give you an appropriate solution. Of course, if you have some relevant qualifications that are related, then it’s not unreasonable to expect to pick-up at a different starting-point to someone who is new to the field. If this is your opening crack at studying to take an IT exam then you might also want to start out with user-skills and software training first.

It’s so important to understand this key point: You absolutely must have proper 24×7 instructor and mentor support. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t adhere to this. Be wary of any training providers who use ‘out-of-hours’ messaging systems – with the call-back coming in during typical office hours. This is useless when you’re stuck and need an answer now.

We recommend looking for study programmes that utilise many support facilities from around the world. Every one of them needs to be seamlessly combined to give a single entry point as well as 24 hours-a-day access, when it suits you, with no hassle. Search out a training provider that cares. As only live 24×7 support gives you the confidence to make it.

Many trainers provide a bunch of books and manuals. This can be very boring and not really conducive to remembering. Many studies have proved that we remember much more when we receive multi-sensorial input, and we get practically involved in what we’re studying.

Interactive audio-visual materials featuring instructor demo’s and practice lab’s beat books hands-down. And you’ll find them fun and interesting. It’s very important to see courseware examples from any company that you may want to train through. Be sure that they contain video, demonstrations and various interactive elements.

Select CD and DVD ROM based physical training media whenever you can. You’re then protected from the variability of broadband quality and service.

Considering how a program is ‘delivered’ to you is usually ignored by most students. How many parts is the training broken down into? What is the order and how fast does each element come? The majority of training companies will set up some sort of program spread over 1-3 years, and courier the materials in pieces as you get to the end of each exam. This sounds reasonable until you consider the following: What happens when you don’t complete every section? And what if the order provided doesn’t meet your requirements? Without any fault on your part, you might take a little longer and not get all the study materials as a result.

An ideal situation would be to have all your study materials delivered to you right at the start; the complete package! Then, nothing can hinder your ability to finish.

Validated exam simulation and preparation packages are a must – and should definitely be supplied by your course provider. Avoid relying on unauthorised exam preparation questions. The type of questions asked is often somewhat different – and this could lead to potential problems when it comes to taking the real exam. As you can imagine, it’s essential to ensure that you’re completely ready for your actual certification exam prior to doing it. Practicing ‘mock’ tests logs the information in your brain and saves you time and money on unsuccessful attempts at exams.

A useful feature that several companies offer is a programme of Job Placement assistance. It’s intention is to steer you into your first IT role. Don’t get overly impressed with this service – it isn’t unusual for training companies to overstate it’s need. Ultimately, the massive skills shortage in Britain is why employers will be interested in you.

However, don’t procrastinate and wait until you have passed your final exams before getting your CV updated. As soon as your training commences, mark down what you’re doing and get it out there! You’ll often find that you’ll land your initial role whilst still on the course (even in the early stages). If your CV doesn’t say what you’re learning (and it isn’t in the hands of someone with jobs to offer) then you aren’t even in the running! The top companies to help you land that job are normally local IT focused employment agencies. Because they get paid commission to place you, they’ll work that much harder to get a result.

Various trainees, it seems, invest a great deal of time on their training course (sometimes for years), only to give up at the first hurdle when trying to get their first job. Introduce yourself… Make an effort to put yourself out there. Good jobs don’t just knock on your door.

What can a student looking for certified training from Microsoft expect to come across? Clearly, training organisations should be offering a selection of different options that cover the range of training tracks certified by Microsoft. Maybe you’d choose to talk to industry experts, who can give you some ideas on which area of the industry would be best, and what sort of tasks are suitable for someone with a personality like yours. Once you’ve decided on the career path you want, your next search is for a suitable training program tailored to be right for your current level of knowledge and ability. Your study program should leave no room for complaints.

Making the right job choice can be very hard – so where should we be looking and what questions should we raise?

Ignore any salesman that pushes one particular program without a thorough investigation so as to understand your abilities as well as level of experience. They should be able to select from a large product range so they can solve your training issues. Sometimes, the training inception point for a person with a little experience can be vastly dissimilar to the student with none. Opening with a basic PC skills course first may be the ideal way to commence your IT training, depending on your current skill level.

One of the most important things to insist on has to be 24×7 round-the-clock support through professional mentors and instructors. It’s an all too common story to find providers that will only offer a basic 9am till 6pm support period (maybe later on certain days) with very little availability over the weekend. Beware of institutions that use ‘out-of-hours’ call-centres – with the call-back coming in during office hours. This is useless when you’re stuck and want support there and then.

We recommend that you search for colleges that utilise many support facilities active in different time-zones. All of them should be combined to provide a single interface and also round-the-clock access, when it suits you, with no hassle. Don’t accept second best where support is concerned. The majority of trainees that throw in the towel, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

Often, trainers provide a big box of books. It’s not a very interesting way to learn and not a very good way of achieving retention. We see a huge improvement in memory retention when multiple senses are involved – learning experts have been saying this for years now.

Locate a program where you’ll receive a selection of DVD-ROM’s – you’ll be learning from instructor videos and demo’s, with the facility to hone your abilities through virtual lab’s. It’s very important to see examples of the study materials provided by each company you’re contemplating. It’s essential they incorporate video demo’s and interactive elements such as practice lab’s.

Purely on-line training should be avoided. Ideally, you should opt for CD and DVD ROM courseware where obtainable, as you need to be able to use them whenever it’s convenient for you – you don’t want to be reliant on a quality and continuous internet connection.

A lot of training schools are still using a now out-dated method of training – classroom lessons. Usually touted as a major benefit, after discussion with someone who has first-hand experience, don’t be surprised to be lectured on several if not all of the following problems:

* Loads of journeys to the training centre – often 100′s of miles.

* Workshop access; frequently Mon-Fri and 2-3 days in a row. It’s never convenient to take the required leave of absence.

* If we get twenty days annual leave, spending half on training events often means losing out on family and vacation time.

* Classes sometimes reach their maximum intake very quickly, meaning we have to accept something that we don’t really want.

* Many students want to study at a pace that is different to the other class members. Often this can bring about tension in the class.

* Add up the cost of all the travel, fares, parking, accommodation and food and you’ll be in for a big surprise. Attendees have reported extra costs ranging from hundreds to over a thousand pounds. Work it out – and understand where they’re coming from.

* You should never risk the possibility of letting yourself be side-stepped for advancement or income boosts because of your studies.

* It’s not unusual to find it difficult to ask questions when surrounded by other students – as we don’t want to look silly.

* You should remember, events frequently become basically unreachable, when you live or work away from home for some part of the year.

Many students discover a more flexible approach is to exploit pre-filmed workshops in the comfort of your own chosen environment – and do it when it’s convenient to you – not some other person. Think… If you have a laptop then you’re free to study in any location you choose. And live 24×7 support is only a web-click away in case of difficulty. Repeat lessons and modules when you’re preparing for exams – memory is aided by repetition. And you’ll never have to write notes again – everything is ready to go. Whilst there’s no way this can remove every single problem, it definitely vastly reduces stress and simplifies things. You’ve also got less costs, travel and hassle.

Technology and IT is amongst the most electrifying and revolutionary industries to be involved in today. To be working on the cutting-edge of technology is to do your bit in the gigantic changes shaping life over the next few decades. Society largely thinks that the technological advancement we’ve had over recent years is lowering its pace. All indicators point in the opposite direction. We have yet to experience incredible advances, and the internet significantly is going to dominate how we conduct our lives.

A regular IT employee across the UK can demonstrate that they earn significantly more money than his or her counterpart in much of the rest of the economy. Average wages are some of the best to be had nationwide. Experts agree that there’s a substantial UK-wide demand for qualified IT professionals. And with the marketplace continuing to expand, it looks like there’s going to be for a good while yet.

The world has become a much smaller place, thanks to the internet and cell phones. Carrying a cell phone means that you can be in contact with anyone at anytime. Is this a good thing? Well, it has its advantages and disadvantages. Cell phones are a good way to keep in touch with friends and family, but they have a habit of going off at certain times, like when your sleeping, eating, showering etc.

Being available 24/7, has its disadvantages. We need to sleep, but like many of us we leave our phone switched on each night before we go to bed. We are afrais to switch it off for several reasons, one of the most common being, in case there is a family emergency. You can be sure that at some stage some friend or family member will ring you in the small hours, to talk about something that could have waited till the next day, and you have been woke from your sleep for nothing.

Today in this modern society, we live in and the domination of cell phones we see people talking anywhere and everywhere. If used for business, this may prove to be very effective and worthy. However, for very menial issues being bothered in your sleep and even during your bathroom time may be quite annoying if not outright disgusting. However, if you make yourself available all the time, you created your own nightmare.

Why did we buy a cell phone? So we could be contacted, and we could contact others. But as good as cell phones are, they can also cause us embarrising moments also. If your at a funeral, or a wedding, or even a business meeting for example, these are times when we seem to forget to turn the phone off, and this leads to others getting annoyed with you, so in these situations it is always best to turn your phone off, or put it on silent, as you never know the moment your phone is going to ring.

It may help people who use cell phones to follow certain degree of etiquette with respect to the use of cell phones specially in places where you may seem rude if you use or even when your cell phone rings.

Why do people never seem to turn the cell phones off before the enter a place of worshipp for example? In my local church, not a week gos by when someones phone doesnt go off. It happens each and every week, and you would think by now they would have learned to switch them off, as you never know the moment when your phone will ring.

Cell phone have become to be a necessity nowadays, that is why most people use it and cell phone manufacturers have continuously develop different usage and functions for this very small gadget. Be globally competitive, but you should understand that being rude is not part of modernity. Follow certain degree of etiquette; this will be very helpful to you and your business.

As you’re looking to study to get an MCSE, it’s likely you’ll come into one of two categories. You could be about to enter the world of IT, and you’ve found the industry has a huge demand for people with the right qualifications. Or you may be already a professional looking to gain accreditation with a qualification such as MCSE.

As you do your searches, you will discover training providers that reduce their costs by not providing the current Microsoft version. Stay away from this type of college as you’ll have problems in the exam. If you’re learning from an old version, it could be impossible to pass. Providers ought to be dedicated to finding the right path for aspiring trainees. Directing learning is as much about guiding people on establishing where to go, as well as helping them get there.

Most of us would love to think that our careers will always be secure and our work prospects are protected, but the likely scenario for most jobs throughout Great Britain right now is that the marketplace is far from secure. However, a quickly growing market-place, with a constant demand for staff (because of an enormous shortfall of fully trained staff), enables the possibility of proper job security.

Looking at the Information Technology (IT) business, the 2006 e-Skills analysis demonstrated a more than 26 percent skills deficit. It follows then that for every 4 jobs available around Information Technology (IT), businesses can only source enough qualified individuals for three of them. Appropriately trained and commercially certified new employees are therefore at a complete premium, and it’s estimated to remain so for many years longer. With the market increasing at the speed it is, it’s unlikely there’s any better area of industry worth taking into account for retraining.

Evidently, the UK Information Technology (IT) market shows outstanding possibilities. Yet, to investigate fully, which questions should we be posing, and which are the most important factors?

Any advisor who doesn’t ask many questions – the likelihood is they’re actually nothing more than a salesman. If they’re pushing towards a particular product before looking at your personality and whether you have any commercial experience, then it’s definitely the case. Where you have a strong background, or even a touch of real-world experience (some industry qualifications maybe?) then it’s likely the level you’ll need to start at will be quite dissimilar from a trainee who has no experience. It’s usual to start with some basic user skills first. This can help whip your basic knowledge into shape and make the learning curve a little less steep.

Most trainers only give support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Don’t buy training that only supports you through a call-centre messaging service when it’s outside of usual working hours. Trainers will defend this with all kinds of excuses. Essentially – you want support at the appropriate time – not at their convenience.

The very best programs opt for an internet-based 24 hours-a-day package combining multiple support operations throughout multiple time-zones. You will have a simple interface which seamlessly accesses whichever office is appropriate at any time of day or night: Support available as-and-when you want it. If you fail to get yourself support round-the-clock, you’ll quickly find yourself regretting it. You may avoid using the support during the night, but consider weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point

Those that are drawn to this type of work are often very practical, and aren’t really suited to the classroom environment, and endless reading of dry academic textbooks. If you identify with this, opt for more involving, interactive learning materials, where everything is presented via full motion video. Learning psychology studies show that much more of what we learn in remembered when we use all our senses, and we get physically involved with the study process.

Interactive audio-visual materials utilising video demo’s and practice lab’s will turn you off book-based study for ever more. And they’re far more fun. You’ll definitely want a demonstration of the study materials from any training college. The materials should incorporate slide-shows, instructor-led videos and interactive labs where you get to practice.

It doesn’t make sense to choose training that is only available online. With highly variable reliability and quality from all internet service providers, you should always obtain physical media such as CD or DVD ROM’s.

Commercially accredited qualifications are now, most definitely, already replacing the more academic tracks into the IT sector – but why has this come about? Key company training (in industry terminology) is most often much more specialised. The IT sector has realised that this level of specialised understanding is necessary to service the demands of an increasingly more technical workplace. Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe dominate in this arena. In essence, the learning just focuses on what’s actually required. It’s slightly more broad than that, but the principle objective is to cover the precise skills needed (along with a certain amount of crucial background) – without overdoing the detail in every other area (as academia often does).

Think about if you were the employer – and you needed to take on someone with a very particular skill-set. What should you do: Pore through a mass of different academic qualifications from hopeful applicants, struggling to grasp what they’ve learned and which vocational skills they have, or choose particular accreditations that specifically match what you’re looking for, and make your short-list from that. You can then focus on how someone will fit into the team at interview – instead of having to work out if they can do the job.

Authorised exam preparation packages are essential – and should definitely be supplied by your training company. Confirm that the practice exams are not just posing the correct questions in the right areas, but are also posing them in the way that the actual final exam will pose them. This throws trainees if they’re faced with unrecognisable phrases and formats. ‘Mock’ or practice exams are enormously valuable in helping you build your confidence – then when the time comes for you to take the real thing, you won’t be worried.

Finding your first job in the industry sometimes feels easier to handle with the help of a Job Placement Assistance service. With the growing demand for appropriately skilled people in the United Kingdom at the moment, there’s no need to make too much of this option though. It really won’t be that difficult to get employment once you’re trained and certified.

Get your CV updated straight-away though – look to your training company for advice on how to do this. Don’t wait till you’ve finished your exams. Quite frequently, you’ll land your first position while you’re still a student (even in the early stages). If your course details aren’t on your CV (and it’s not being looked at by employers) then you aren’t even in the running! The most reliable organisations to get you a new position are generally specialised and independent recruitment consultants. Because they make their money when they’ve found you a job, they have the necessary incentive to try that bit harder.

A constant grievance of a number of course providers is how hard trainees are prepared to study to pass exams, but how little effort that student will then put into getting the role they’re trained for. Don’t give up when the best is yet to come.

by Jason Kendall

If you’re thinking about a job in network support then the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator course is an ideal qualification for you. So if you want to get into IT or have previous knowledge but want a professional course, there’s a variety of options to fulfil your needs. Each of these options needs a different training track, so make sure you’ve got the correct program before making a start. Identify a training provider that wants to get to know what you’re looking to do, and can help you identify how it will all work, before they start talking about courses.

Doing your bit in the leading edge of new technology really is electrifying. You personally play your part in shaping the next few decades. Technology, computers and connections through the internet will radically shape the way we live our lives over future years; to a vast degree.

A usual IT technician in the UK can demonstrate that they receive noticeably more than his or her counterpart in other market sectors. Mean average salaries are amongst the highest in the country. It would appear there’s a lot more room for IT jobs development across Britain. The market sector is still growing rapidly, and we don’t have anywhere near enough qualified skilled IT professionals to fill current job vacancies, so it’s highly unlikely that this will change significantly for decades to come.

Evidently, the computer industry shows great opportunities. But, to arm ourselves with the correct information, what are the questions we should be asking, and what are the sectors we need to investigate?

The market provides a plethora of employment in Information Technology. Deciding which one could be right out of this complexity is a mammoth decision. What are the chances of us grasping the tasks faced daily in an IT career when it’s an alien environment to us? Most likely we don’t know someone who performs the role either. Usually, the way to come at this problem properly comes from a deep conversation around some important points:

* Your personal interests and hobbies – often these reveal the possibilities will satisfy you.

* Are you driven to obtain training because of a precise motive – for example, do you aim to work at home (maybe self-employment?)?

* Is the money you make further up on your list of priorities than anything else.

* Many students don’t properly consider the time required to attain their desired level.

* You need to appreciate the differences between each individual training area.

The bottom line is, your only chance of investigating all this is by means of a meeting with an advisor or professional that understands the market well enough to lead you to the correct decision.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always comprehensive 24×7 direct-access support through expert mentors and instructors. It’s an all too common story to find providers that will only offer a basic 9am till 6pm support period (maybe later on certain days) with very little availability over the weekend. Avoid those companies who use ‘out-of-hours’ messaging systems – with the call-back coming in during standard office hours. This is no use if you’re stuck and need an answer now.

World-class organisations offer a web-based 24×7 service combining multiple support operations from around the world. You’re offered a single, easy-to-use interface that seamlessly accesses whichever office is appropriate at any time of day or night: Support on demand. Never compromise where support is concerned. Most trainees that throw in the towel, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

The old fashioned style of teaching, using textbooks and whiteboards, can be pretty hard going sometimes. If this sounds like you, dig around for more practical courses which feature interactive and multimedia modules. If we can utilise all of our senses into our learning, then the results are usually dramatically better.

Top of the range study programs now offer self-contained CD or DVD materials. Through instructor-led video classes you’ll take everything in by way of the demonstrations and explanations. Knowledge can then be tested by using practice-lab’s. Be sure to get a demonstration of the study materials from any training college. The package should contain slide-shows, instructor-led videos and interactive labs where you get to practice.

Pick CD and DVD ROM based physical training media wherever available. You can then avoid all the difficulties of internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.

Quite often, students have issues with one area of their training very rarely considered: The breakdown of the course materials before being physically delivered to you. Trainees may consider it sensible (when study may take one to three years to achieve full certification,) that a training provider will issue the courseware in stages, as you complete each part. But: Students often discover that the trainer’s ‘standard’ path of training isn’t the easiest way for them. Sometimes, it’s more expedient to use an alternative order of study. And what happens if they don’t finish in the allotted time?

The ideal solution is to have all the training materials posted to your address right at the beginning; the whole caboodle! Then, nothing can hinder your capacity to get everything done.

You should look for an authorised exam preparation system included in your course. Often students can get confused by going through practice questions that aren’t from official sources. Quite often, the phraseology is unfamiliar and you should be prepared for this. As you can imagine, it’s very important to know that you’re absolutely ready for your final certified exam prior to going for it. Rehearsing simulated tests adds to your knowledge bank and will avoid you getting frustrated with wasted exam attempts.

The sometimes daunting task of securing your first role in IT can be made easier because some trainers offer a Job Placement Assistance programme. It can happen though that too much is made of this feature, as it is actually not that hard for a well trained and motivated person to land a job in this industry – because companies everywhere are seeking trained staff.

Work on polishing up your CV right away however – you should get plenty of help from your training provider on this. Don’t delay till you’ve finished your exams. It’s not uncommon to find that junior support roles have been bagged by students who are still studying and haven’t got any qualifications yet. At least this will get you on your way. Generally, an independent and specialised local employment service (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) will be more pro-active than a centralised training company’s service. It also stands to reason that they’ll be familiar with the local industry and employment needs.

Please ensure you don’t invest a great deal of time on your training course, and then just stop and leave it up to everyone else to land you a job. Stand up for yourself and get on with the job. Invest as much focus into landing a good job as it took to get qualified.

In this day and age, cell phones are everywhere. No matter where you go you are sure to see many people talking on them. You may be sitting on a bus and the person in front of you is talking away on the cell phone, and this can be really annoying, as people tend to be loud and laughing on them when they are out. If your in business, cell phones are a good way to keep in contact with the office, and business partners.

When traveling and if you are on-board an aircraft, you will be required to turn off your phone. This is because electronics devices may interfere with the aircrafts avionics. Thus, it is a requirement to turn of your phone for safety reasons. However, for extremely long flights, airline companies allow cell phone usage at a certain time, if you really need to make a phone call, use this time allotted if necessary.

When i am at church, every week without fail someones phone will ring. It is very annoying, especially when the minister is speaking, and it just upsets the whole balance of things. In a place of worship, a cell phone should always be switched off. No matter how many times it happens in church, the following week, the same thing happens again, and its not uncommon for 3 or 4 people in the congregation’s phones to go off during the service in church.

We all love our cell phones, and always keep them close by us in case someone calls us or we ned to make a call. We update our phones to the latest models, and price never seems to come into it. When the phone comes out, we have just got to have it. People are making a fortune selling these phones, and we are more than happy to the pay whatever the asking price is. Thats how much we think of cell phones in this day and age.

Training for your CompTIA A+ covers 4 different sectors – you’ll have to qualify in just two sectors to be considered competent in A+. You’ll find that many training establishments only offer two of the four areas. Our opinion is this will under prepare you – certainly you’ll have the qualification, but training on all 4 will set you apart in the workplace, where knowledge of all four will be necessary. So that’s why you need education in all 4 specialities.

As well as learning about building and fixing computers, students on A+ courses will have instruction on how to work in antistatic conditions, as well as diagnostics, fault-finding and remote access. Should you want to work towards maintaining networks, you should add CompTIA Network+ to your A+ course. Taking this course as well will prepare you to command a more senior job role. Also look at the Microsoft networking qualifications (MCP, MCSA and MCSE).

So if the UK computer industry grants so many phenomenal career possibilities for us – then which questions should we pose and which elements should we be considering?

An all too common mistake that potential students often succumb to is to choose a career based on a course, and not focus on the desired end-result. Universities have thousands of students who chose a course based on what sounded good – instead of what would yield the career they desired. It’s possible, in some situations, to get a great deal of enjoyment from a year of study and then spend 20 miserable years in a tiresome job role, as a consequence of not performing some quality research when it was needed – at the start.

Never let your focus stray from where you want to get to, and formulate your training based on that – don’t do it back-to-front. Keep on track – making sure you’re training for a career you’ll enjoy for years to come. It’s worth seeking guidance from a professional that understands the sector you’re considering, and who can give you ‘A day in the life of’ explanation for each job considered. These things are of paramount importance because you need to know if you’re going down the right road.

Most trainers typically provide piles of reference manuals and workbooks. Obviously, this isn’t much fun and isn’t the best way to go about remembering. Memory is vastly improved when all our senses are brought into the mix – learning experts have been saying this for as long as we can remember.

Interactive full motion video involving demonstration and virtual lab’s will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And they’re far more fun. It’s very important to see the type of training provided by each company you’re contemplating. It’s essential they incorporate instructor-led video demonstrations with virtual practice-lab’s.

It is generally unwise to go for purely on-line training. Connection quality and reliability varies hugely across all internet service providers, make sure you get actual CD or DVD ROM’s.

Quite often, students have issues with a single training area very rarely considered: How the training is broken down and packaged off through the post. Typically, you’ll join a programme staged over 2 or 3 years and get posted one section at a time – from one exam to the next. While this may sound logical on one level, consider this: Maybe the order of study prescribed by the provider doesn’t suit you. You may find it a stretch to finalise all the modules at the speed required?

An ideal situation would be to have all the training materials posted to you right at the start; the entire thing! Then, nothing can hinder your capacity to get everything done.

Some training companies will only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later; not many go late into the evening (after 8-9pm) or cover weekends properly. Avoid those companies that use messaging services ‘out-of-hours’ – where you’ll get called back during standard office hours. It’s no use when you’re stuck on a problem and want support there and then.

Be on the lookout for training programs that utilise many support facilities across multiple time-zones. All of them should be combined to enable simple one-stop access together with 24×7 access, when it suits you, with the minimum of hassle. Don’t accept second best when it comes to your support. The vast majority of would-be IT professionals that fall by the wayside, are in that situation because of support (or the lack of).

Including examinations with the course fee then including an exam guarantee is a popular marketing tool with a good many training companies. However, let’s consider what’s really going on:

They’ve allowed costings for it one way or another. You can be assured it’s not a freebie – they’ve simply charged more for the whole training package. Trainees who take each progressive exam, funding them one at a time are far more likely to pass first time. They’re thoughtful of the cost and so are more inclined to be ready for the task.

Doesn’t it make more sense to go for the best offer when you’re ready, instead of paying a premium to a training course provider, and to do it in a local testing office – instead of the remote centre that’s convenient only to the trainer? A great deal of money is netted by some training companies that take the exam money up-front. For quite legitimate reasons, a number of students don’t get to do their exams and so they pocket the rest. Believe it or not, there are providers that actually bank on it – as that’s how they make a lot of their profit. It’s worth noting that exam re-takes through companies who offer an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are monitored with tight restrictions. They will insist that you take pre-tests first till you’ve proven conclusively that you can pass.

With average prices for VUE and Pro-metric tests costing in the region of 112 pounds in this country, it’s common sense to fund them one by one. Not to fork out thousands extra in up-front costs. Study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams is what will really guarantee success.

Searching for your first position in IT can feel more straightforward with the help of a Job Placement Assistance facility. Sometimes, too much is made of this feature, for it is actually not that hard for a well trained and motivated person to get work in IT – because companies everywhere are seeking trained staff.

One important thing though, don’t wait till you’ve passed your final exams before updating your CV. As soon as your training commences, mark down what you’re doing and tell people about it! A good number of junior support roles have been offered to people who are still learning and have yet to take their exams. This will at the very least get your CV into the ‘possible’ pile and not the ‘no’ pile. Generally, a specialist locally based employment service – who make their money when they’ve found you a job – is going to give you a better service than a sector of a centralised training facility. Also of course they should be familiar with the local industry and employment needs.

Certainly ensure you don’t spend hundreds of hours on your training and studies, just to give up and leave it up to everyone else to find you a job. Stand up for yourself and get on with the job. Invest the same focus into finding your new role as you did to gain the skills.

It’s clear nowadays: There really is no such thing as personal job security available anymore; there can only be market and sector security – as any company can fire a solitary member of staff if it suits the company’s commercial needs. We can however hit upon security at market-level, by looking for areas that have high demand, together with shortages of trained staff.

Taking the computer business as an example, a recent e-Skills survey highlighted a national skills shortage in the United Kingdom of around 26 percent. Alternatively, you could say, this highlights that the country is only able to source 3 trained people for every 4 jobs existing currently. Properly qualified and commercially grounded new staff are correspondingly at a total premium, and in all likelihood it will stay that way for a long time to come. In actuality, gaining new qualifications in IT during the next few years is almost definitely the safest choice of careers you could make.

But what about addictions to other substances that are not harmful to your mind or body when taken properly? I am talking about prescription drugs.

Hospitals use prescription drugs all over the world for many reasons. Their are pain relief drugs, drugs for disorders of the psyche, and many other applications.

Prescription drugs are created to solve problems and help people. But they are just as harmful as other drugs if they are used improperly and just as addictive.

One factor that adds to the addictive nature of prescription drugs is that they are designed to help. This often creates a psychological trap for people.

Cocaine is broadcast world wide as a potentially fatal drug, so most people stay far away from it.But you are less intimidated by the pain killer your family doctor gives you. This makes it far easier to abuse.

That also means it is more difficult for the person suffering to get help. If their doctor gave them the drugs it is hard for them to see that they have a problem.

People may not see how dangerous they are, but often people die when abusing prescription drugs for the very first time.

Don’t hesitate to help your loved ones if they may be suffering from an addiction to prescription drugs.

To become a proficient web designer with the right credentials for the current working environment, your must-have certification is Adobe Dreamweaver. Additionally, it’s good practice that students get an in-depth understanding of the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite, including Flash and Action Script, to be able to facilitate Dreamweaver as a commercial web-designer. This can lead to becoming either an Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) or an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE).

The construction of the website is just the start of what you’ll need – in order to drive traffic to the site, maintain its content, and work with dynamic database-driven sites, you will have to learn more programming skills, such as PHP, HTML, and MySQL. You should also have a working knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and E-Commerce.

Reaching the most fitting career development choice can be very hard – so where should we be looking and what are the questions we should be seeking the answers to?

Potential Students hopeful to start a career in IT normally haven’t a clue what path is best, let alone which sector to build their qualifications around. As in the absence of any commercial skills in the IT industry, how should we possibly be expected to know what a particular job actually consists of? To work through this, there should be a discussion of several different aspects:

* Your hobbies and interests – these often reveal the possibilities you’ll get the most enjoyment out of.

* For what reasons you’re stepping into the IT industry – is it to triumph over a long-held goal like self-employment for instance.

* Have you thought about salary vs job satisfaction?

* Learning what the main IT roles and sectors are – plus how they’re different to each other.

* How much time you’ll set aside for the training program.

For the majority of us, sifting through these areas requires a good chat with someone who can investigate each area with you. And we’re not only talking about the certifications – but the commercial needs and expectations of the market as well.

One thing you must always insist on is full 24×7 support via trained professional instructors and mentors. Too many companies only provide office hours (or extended office hours) support. Many only provide email support (too slow), and phone support is usually just a call-centre that will take the information and email an instructor – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, at a suitable time to them. This is no use if you’re lost and confused and have a one hour time-slot in which to study.

We recommend looking for colleges that utilise many support facilities active in different time-zones. All of them should be combined to provide a single interface as well as 24 hours-a-day access, when it’s convenient for you, with the minimum of hassle. Never compromise with the quality of your support. Most trainees that throw in the towel, are in that situation because of support (or the lack of).

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, utilising reference manuals and books, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If you’re nodding as you read this, look for learning programmes which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts. Research over recent years has constantly confirmed that getting into our studies physically, is much more conducive to long-term memory.

Start a study-program in which you’re provided with an array of CD and DVD ROM’s – you’ll begin by watching videos of instructors demonstrating the skills, followed by the chance to hone your abilities through virtual lab’s. Always insist on a study material demo’ from any training college. The package should contain slide-shows, instructor-led videos and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

You’ll find that many companies will only provide just online versions of their training packages; and although this is okay the majority of the time, imagine the problems if your access to the internet is broken or you get intermittent problems and speed issues. It is usually safer to have actual CD or DVD ROMs which will not have these problems.

In first place for the most common difficulty in the IT training sector is often the ‘in-centre’ workshop requirement. A lot of training companies extol the virtues of the plus points of attending, it’s almost certain though that you’ll find them a burden to be carried because of:

* Multiple round journeys – usually hundreds of miles each and every time.

* Workshop accessibility; frequently Mon-Fri and two or three days in a row. It’s not easy to get the leave of absence.

* Holiday days lost – most IT hopefuls only have 20 days holiday. If you give up at least half to your training workshops, that isn’t going to leave much vacation time for the family as a whole.

* Workshop days typically get overly large as well.

* The pace of the class – classes typically consist of trainees of different skill, so tension develops between students with more background knowledge and the ones who need a little longer.

* Many students report that the (not inconsiderable) costs of getting to and from the venue whilst paying for accommodation and food can get very expensive.

* Don’t risk the possibility of getting overlooked for potential advancement or pay-rises because you’re getting trained in a different area.

* Posing questions in the presence of other class-mates sometimes makes any one of us a little uncomfortable. Would you admit that you’ve occasionally avoided posing a question just because you didn’t want to appear stupid?

* You should remember, classes become nigh on impossible to attend, if you work elsewhere in the country for part of your week or month.

Surely it makes a lot more sense to be taught at a time that’s convenient for you – not the school – and exploit videos of instructors with interactive virtual-lab’s. Study can happen anywhere that suits. Got a laptop?… Then why not take in a little sun in your garden while you work. If you have any difficulties then make use of the 24×7 support. It really doesn’t matter how regularly you would like to re-take a quiz or test, on-screen teachers will never get annoyed or frustrated! Plus, because of this, you can say goodbye to note-taking. It’s already there for you when you need it. The final result: Less hassle and stress, less cost, and you’ve avoided all travel.

Technology and IT is one of the more electrifying and revolutionary industries that you can get into right now. Being up close and personal with technology puts you at the fore-front of developments shaping life over the next few decades. Society largely thinks that the increase in technology we’ve had over recent years is slowing down. There is no truth in this at all. We have yet to experience incredible advances, and most especially the internet will be the biggest thing to affect the way we live.

If earning a good living is around the top on your scale of wants, then you will be pleasantly surprised to hear that the income on average of IT employees in general is much higher than with much of the rest of industry. It would appear there’s a lot more room for IT industry development throughout this country. The sector continues to develop rapidly, and with the skills shortage of over 26 percent that we’re experiencing, it’s not likely that there’ll be any kind of easing off for quite some time to come.
